As summer approaches, we have had the opportunity to revisit our archives and have thoroughly enjoyed looking back through our YouTube videos. With five years of content available, it can be difficult to know where to begin. We've selected a few videos that we pray will be both helpful and encouraging to you.

What Does the Bible Say About Church Administration?

Gavin and Nigel Ring sit down to discuss what the Bible teaches about the spiritual gift of administration. They explore how church administration is a Spirit-given ministry that quietly but powerfully enables pastors, leaders, and church members to fulfil their God-given calling. By providing structure, organisation, and support, administration helps create the environment in which ministry can thrive. This conversation is both encouraging and a helpful reminder of why we do what we do, pointing us back to serving Christ and proclaiming the good news for his glory.

12 Recommendations that Help People to Serve

Almost every church we know has faced a shortage of volunteers in recent years. In this conversation, Gavin talks with John Truscott about twelve recommendations that can help churches encourage and support people in serving. They discuss how people are most likely to serve when churches provide clear vision, trusted leadership, personal encouragement, meaningful purpose, supportive teams, opportunities for growth, and a culture that views service as part of discipleship rather than simply filling vacancies. This video encourages us to move beyond simply filling positions and instead focus on building a community where people are discipled, valued, equipped, and united in a meaningful mission.

5 Common Challenges with Safeguarding in Churches

Christian Safeguarding Services' Paul Harrison joins Gavin to discuss five common challenges in church safeguarding: poor governance, low standards, conflicts of interest, failure to act on low-level concerns, and a lack of professional curiosity. Together, they highlight how effective safeguarding depends on strong governance, high standards, impartial decision-making, careful recording of concerns, and a church culture where everyone feels responsible for protecting and caring for vulnerable people.

Although safeguarding is a heavy conversation, this video demonstrates that safeguarding is not just a bureaucratic requirement but is a practical expression of care for our church family and having some accountability and stewardship over the people in our congregation. It offers helpful guidance for churches seeking to strengthen their safeguarding practices, equipping them to be safer, more trustworthy, and more effective in ministry.

Managing Church Finances

In this video, Gavin speaks with Tim Wyatt about managing church finances, sharing practical insights on budgeting and forecasting. Their conversation highlights how the administrator's role extends far beyond managing systems and finances. Good administration creates clarity, stewardship, and structure, enabling church leaders and ministry teams to focus on discipleship, mission, and pastoral care. This is a helpful reminder that the budget, forecasts and reports are there to serve the church, not control it. Money is a tool which God has entrusted to us for the advancement of the gospel and as Christians we are called to steward it wisely, not let it rule us.

Church Planting – Get the Right Team

In this short extract, Gavin speaks with Tony Graham, one of the Church Office trustees, about what contributes to a successful church plant. They discuss how church planting is not only about preaching and vision, but also about gathering the right people, planning carefully, and establishing practical structures that allow the gospel to flourish. Administrators and operations leaders play a vital role in making this possible. This video is a valuable reminder that church planting and church growth are not only spiritual endeavours but also practical ones as well. Both are essential for effective ministry. It is also such an encouragement that every practical task administrators undertake- from hiring a venue to coordinating teams- ultimately serves the mission of proclaiming Christ.

Special Shout Out!

What can you do in a church building when no one else is around? Take a look at what Gavin got up to during the first lockdown when the opportunity of an empty building presented itself! This funny video brings a smile to our faces and was a great stress-reliever during the first lockdown.
