Church Behind the Scenes

In the second installment of our church management mini series, Gavin talks through the opportunity to review our church management systems that covid-19 has given us.

Now more than ever in this season of Covid-19 church leaders have been in many ways put on furlough by God. They have been given time out, I know many churches have adapted and moved their ministry and events from the calendar to online as much as they can. But maybe this is a time to reflect, pray and study, time to reset, time to re-prioritise and re-think what pastoral ministry looks like going forward.

I am sure over the next few months our church calendars will change again but what will they change back to? I am sure we will see a surge of in-person meetings and events taking place across the church, hopefully an increase in participation and devotion to the local church with a greater desire to reach out with the gospel.

Our passion at The Church Office coming out of this season is to ask church leaders to take the time to reconsider the staff and volunteers they have serving behind the scenes organising church life. We want to encourage church leaders to consider the structures, staffing and volunteers in place to manage these aspects of the church. We would love church leaders to take the time to consider how they can best equip those serving in roles behind the scenes. Why?  Because Church Management is essential for the advancement of the gospel. Our church calendars and ministries might change but our mission doesn’t change. We are called to preach the gospel, to share the good news of Jesus. Great church administration and church management facilitate that work!
